Simon Murray, CBE |
|
Mr. Murray is the founder and the Executive Chairman of SMC, as well as the Chairman of GEMS and Simon Murray & Associates.
He has lived in Asia for over 40 years, 14 of which were spent with the Jardine Matheson Group, where he ultimately ran their engineering business and trading operations. Between 1984 and 1993, Mr. Murray became the Group Managing Director of Hutchison Whampoa, the flag ship company of Asia’s foremost businessman, Li Ka Shing. During his 9 years at the helm of Hutchison, Mr. Murray pioneered the Hutchison Group's entry into the mobile telecommunication business and negotiated the rights to develop Orange, a leading PCN network in Europe. He also developed the Group's energy business through the acquisition of Hong Kong Electric and Husky Oil Company of Canada. Hutchison also expanded its container terminals business and now handles over 20% of the world’s container port operations.
Mr. Murray became the Executive Chairman Asia Pacific for the Deutsche Bank Group between 1993 and 1998, supervising the Group's operations of 80 offices in 17 countries. In 1997, he founded SMC and GEMS to spearhead Pan-Asian investment management.
Mr. Murray is currently a director of a number of companies including Cheung Kong Holdings and Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA, as well as the Asia Chairman of Corporate Finance in Macquarie Bank. |

Dr. Thomas Schmidheiny |
|
Dr. Schmidheiny is a Director of SMC. He started his activities at Holcim (former “Holderbank” Financiere Glaris Ltd.) in a cement plant in Apasco, Mexico. During his professional career at Holcim he held various positions including Member of the Executive Committee. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO for almost two decades (1984 - 2003). Under his leadership, Holcim became a true global building materials company. He continues to be the major shareholder of Holcim and a member of the board. He also acts as Chairman of his family office Spectrum Value Management.
His vast interests and passion include private wineries, art collection (largest global collector of Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler), and the Health, Spa & Gold Resort Grand Hotels Bad Ragaz, Switzerland, among others. He has a particular interest in philanthropy. He has sponsored business schools, arts, education and start-ups through his foundations. Thomas Schmidheiny also serves on the board of various companies in Europe, North America and Asia, and several non-profit organizations.
Dr. Schmidheiny holds an MSc of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland, an MBA from IMD Lausanne, Switzerland and he was awarded a h.c. doctorate of Business Administration for his services to the field of sustainable development from Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA. |

Nick Powell |
|
| Mr. Powell is a Director of SMC as well as a senior partner of GEMS. He has accumulated over 10 years of experience in Asian investment banking. After beginning his career with Jardine Matheson, he spent 3 years with the corporate finance division of Nomura International, involved primarily in their underwriting and IPO business. He subsequently moved to Robert Fleming as an Asian Specialist in Institutional Sales and Corporate Broking. |

Dr. Dieter Spälti |
|
| Dr. Spälti is the CEO of Spectrum Value Management and is based in Zurich, Switzerland. Spectrum is the family office of the Thomas Schmidheiny family, the promoters of Holcim. He serves on the board of various Swiss companies such as Holcim, Rieter Holding and IHAG Holding. He is also a regular lecturer at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad and has been active in various Indian projects. Dr. Spälti was previously a partner at McKinsey, Switzerland. He has also worked with the Swarovski Group in Austria and Bank of New York in the USA. Dr. Spälti has a PhD from the University of Zurich, School of Law. |
